Clay County Conservation District
Our Mission
To help people conserve, improve and sustain the natural resources of Clay County.
What is a Conservation District?
Conservation Districts were born in the dust bowl days of the 1930s. The severe soil erosion of those years led Congress to enact legislation that would allow for the establishment of a Conservation District in each county of the United States. The Districts were charged with helping landowners put conservation practices on their farms to control soil erosion. Through the years, the District mission has grown to include soil, water, plant and animal resources. Conservation Districts are the only local unit of government charged with the protection and conservation of natural resources.
