NEW ITEMS for August:  


DID YOU KNOW A new coffee house has opened? This is right beside the Rex Theatre, every morning  at 6:00AM. Stop in for various types of coffee cappuccino , espresso, and muffins, etc etc.

DID YOU KNOW you can still enroll in soccer? Deadline is September 1, 2011- forms will not be accepted after that date. The cost is now $22.50 per player ($45 per household max. Return the soccer forms to United State Bank, Clay Center Information Center, or the City of Clay Center office.

 DID YOU KNOW It's not to late to join Pinsetter's Youth Bowling League.   We only need a few more kids and we will have 8 teams of 4! Send us a message through Facebook or call Pinsetters at (785) 632-5400 to find out more information or to sign-up. Bowling is a lifelong sport where nobody sits on the bench! We hope you will join us. Other nights have openings as well.

DID YOU KNOW The Clay County Zoning Board is scheduled to meet at 7:30 a.m. on 12 September, 2011 in the County Commissioner's Room of the Clay County Courthouse to consider a special use permit for a cell tower on a parcel of land located in Section 16, Township 10, Range 01E.  The parcel is located on the west side of Deer Trail Road North of 4th Road in Chapman Township.  Anyone not able to attend this meeting that would like to have input may do so by contacting any member of the zoning board, by emailing the zoning administrator at ccappraiser@claycountykansas.org or by telephoning (785) 632-2800.  All information provided will be presented to the board members during the scheduled meeting. The application is available for review in the County Appraiser's office during regular business hours.

DID YOU KNOW the Health Department is having upcoming events? What: Walk- In Flu: Nasal or Inject able -When: Beginning Sept 16th through the month of October every Friday at 8:00AM-5:00PM.  Where: Clay County Health Dept 820 Spellman Cir. Clay Center  If you are unable to make it during the walk-in hours call 785-632-3193 and schedule an appointment for Monday, Wednesday , or Thursday. 

We will also be offering a Dental clinic for pregnant women and children under 5yrs old at minimal or no cost on Sept 22nd  at 9:00AM-3:00PM, contact the Clay County Health Dept 785-632-3193 to schedule today. This service is available from Kansas Cavity Free Kids (KCFK)

DID YOU KNOW United Bank & Trust will Stuff the Bus with common school supplies and classroom items to help districts, teachers and students to combat critical school budget cuts.  We need your help!!!!  Each bus will contain “Wish Cards” that lists common school supply items.  To get involved, pick up a “Wish Card”, purchase the item, and return it to the bank.  All donations will be given to local schools.  Plus, United Bank & Trust will offer a chance to win Chamber Gift Cards to those who participate.  With each donation an individual makes, they will be entered in the drawing for a $50 Gift Card or two $25 Gift Cards.  From now until September 16th, United Bank & Trust will act a donation site for the supplies and classroom items.

 

DID YOU KNOW We are looking to restart the VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS (VFW) and it's Ladies AUXILIARY of Clay Center and are looking for members to restart the program.  If you have served in a combat zone or other approved military zone and can provide a DD214 or ERB with the eligible dates (see the link for details) http://www.vfw.org/uploadedFiles/VFWorg/Join/complete%20eligibility%20Info.PDF then we would like to help you join the VFW. Ladies Auxiliary VFW Members are...(eligibility) Wives, widows, mothers, foster and stepmothers (who have performed the duties of parent), grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, foster and stepdaughters (who attained that status prior to the age of sixteen and for whom the duties of parent were performed), sisters, half sisters, foster and stepsisters (who attained that status prior to age sixteen) of persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Members must be citizens of the United States and not less than sixteen years old. Women eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States shall be eligible for dual membership in the Ladies Auxiliary. WEEKLY EVENTS/MEETINGS

DID YOU KNOW the Chamber of Commerce has a weekly community coffee?  They will meet on Wednesday mornings at 8:00AM.

DID YOU KNOW the Rex Theatre shows movies each week?, Friday after the football game-, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30PM is “Zookeeper”  Rated PG  When an unlucky-in-love zookeeper (Kevin James) tells his romantic troubles to a giraffe, a monkey, a lion and other animals in the zoo, the critters speak up and advise him how to win over the heart of the beautiful woman who got away (Rosario Dawson). But can the sad sap really make their jungle-love advice work for him? This live-action comedy from director Frank Coraci features the voices of Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone and Cher. Tickets are $5.

DID YOU KNOW the Clay County Commission meets every Monday at 8:30AM?

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Lion’s Club meets every Tuesday at Noon?

DID YOU KNOW Weight Watchers meets every Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church 1330 15th Street? Weigh in is between 5:30 – 6:00PM, the meeting starts at 6:00 and goes to 6:30. For new members there will be a short Getting Started session after the meeting.

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Farmers Market is on Saturday’s from 8:00AM-11:00AM on the West Side of the Courthouse? The Market will be every Saturday from May 7th- October 29th.  We are a producer only market, what this means is our vendors can only sell what they grow. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/UPCOMING EVENTS

DID YOU KNOW Incentives are available to qualified businesses based on the location of the facility, type of facility (manufacturing or non-manufacturing), capital investment made, and number of jobs created.  Some of these incentives expire December 31st, 2011.  If you are planning to expand your facility or purchase equipment that will create new jobs call the Clay County Economic Development office at 632-5974.

DID YOU KNOW You can celebrate Morganville’s 125th  Anniversary & Party in the Ville coming up in September? September 10th, 2011 is the date.Lunch will be served from 10:00AM to3:00PM- BBQ Beef, Sloppy Joes, Chips & Drink. There will be a BBQ hosted by the Lion’s Club from 6:00PM 0 8:00PM- Hamburgers, Brat Burgers, Hot dogs, Chips, Beans, Dessert and Drinks. Thru the day there are many things going on-   If you want to play in the softball tournament, contact Trudy at 785-447-0997, for Car, Truck & Tractor display, contact Dave at 785-926-4055, and for Vendor Booths contact Mary at 785-926-3812. The evening wraps up with a Live Band “3 of a Kind” and dance, in downtown Morganville from 8:00PM-12:00AM.

 DID YOU KNOW there will be a Clay Center Car Show on September 24th? This will be at Dexter Park. Advance Registration is $15, deadline for that is September 17th. Onsite Registration is $20. There will be a 50/50 pot, on-site poker run, and proceeds to benefit scholarship fund. There will be Top 20, Best Interior, Best Exterior and Best Engine. Special Awards for Exhibitor’s Choice and Women’s Choice.  Registration is from 8:00AM-11:00AM, Lunch is provided at noon (2 meals per entry)  This is sponsored by Clay Center Business &Professional Women. DID YOU KNOW Clay County Crime Stoppers now has a website?  You can check out Clay County Crime Stoppers website at www.claycountycs.org to find out the crime of the week or to post a tip.  You can also call 800-222-8477 or text CLAYTIP plus your message to CRIMES (274637).  You can make your tips anonymously and still be eligible for up to $1,000 if the case is solved.
