NEW ITEMS for November:

 

DID YOU KNOW Pinsetters is running a buy one game get one game free special this weekend?  Pinsetters is open for open bowling on Wednesdays from 3:30PM  - 5:00PM , Friday nights from 9:30PM to midnight, Saturdays from noon to midnight and Sundays from 1:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.  Come out and join the fun. Call Pinsetters (785) 632-5400 or Emily at (785) 447-1785 for more information.

 

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Wrestling Club Free Clinic will be started, November 1, 2010. The remaining sessions will be held each Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30PM-7:45PM through Wednesday, November 17.  Wrestlers and parents are encouraged to attend any or all sessions during this time. WHERE:  Clay Center City Hall - 2nd Floor WHO CAN ATTEND:  This free clinic is for the beginning or inexperienced wrestler who wants to learn about the sport of wrestling.   We do not discriminate, male or female accepted, children ages 4-16.  If you are currently participating in your middle school program, you cannot attend this Free Clinic. EQUIPMENT NEEDED:  Wrestlers will need tennis shoes, shorts and shirt, or sweats.  Singlets are provided by CCWC after you have joined the wrestling club. Parents are invited to attend any of the sessions.  Club information will be handed out toward the end of the Free Clinic explaining the CCWC Wrestling Program.  Coaches and board members will be present during the Free Clinic to answer any questions you may have.

 

A parents meeting and enrollment will be held the week of Thanksgiving.  This is the time that you will have to decide whether to enroll your child or not.

DID YOU KNOW Clay Center Fall Clean-up will start November 8-- 2 weeks in November, prior to Thanksgiving? Items for Fall Clean-Up should be placed out no earlier than November 1, as the City does not want trash out during Halloween.. The City will not pick up batteries or any hazardous waste, but they will take large appliances including those with Freon in them. For a complete list of what the City will and will not pick up, contact City Hall at 632-5454.

 

DID YOU KNOW On November 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 there will be a carnival at Garfield Elementary? Walking Taco supper is available for $3, includes cookie and bottled water. Family fun for all!!! Call 632-2125 if you have any questions. There will be carnival games, face painting, a photo booth, chance to win tickets for numerous prizes and a walking taco supper. The whole community is invited! The money raised goes directly towards supplies and programs for the children of Garfield School.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Masonic Lodge #134 is holding a CHIP event at the Garfield School’s Carnival on November 5, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. DID YOU KNOW there will be a Benefit Pancake Breakfast for Daniel Valentine? Daniel Valentine is the son of Ned Valentine. Daniel was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. The pancake breakfast will be November 6th, at Green Team of Clay Center from 7:00AM-10:00AM - rain or shine. It is sponsored by Heartland Corvette Club. DID YOU KNOW Republican Valley Ringnecks Youth Pheasant Hunt will be November 7th at Noon near Idana, KS? The Youth hunt is FREE to all participants but a $20 refundable deposit is required to register your youth.

Youth 16 and younger are encouraged to register and preference will be given to those who have not previously attended. Please contact 632-0627 to register.

 

DID YOU KNOW The CCCMS PEP will be sponsoring a Bengal Sports Supper on Monday, Nov. 8 during the CCCMS Girls basketball game and again on Tuesday, Nov. 9 during the CCCMS Wrestling duo?  The supper will be a pulled pork sandwich meal for a free-will donation and will be held in the CCCMS Commons Area from 5:00PM-7:00PM on each night.

 

 

                

WEEKLY EVENTS/MEETINGS

 

 

DID YOU KNOW the Chamber of Commerce has a weekly community coffee?  They will meet on Wednesday, November 3rd at 8:00AM.  The coffee this month is sponsored by Union State Bank & Clay County Medical Center. 

 

DID YOU KNOW Parents as Teachers Play Group meet every Wednesday 9:30AM-11:00 at the District Gym on Prospect, behind CCCHS. All play groups are open to any family that has a child between 0-3 years old. Older siblings are also welcome. There will be no Play Group when school is not in session.

 

DID YOU KNOW that Rotary Club meets every Thursday?   Rotary will meet at noon on Thursday, November 4th.The speaker will Bill Callaway and the meeting will take place at the New Water Plant.. If you would like to attend Rotary as a guest or become a member please contact a current member for information.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay County Commission meets every Monday at 8:30AM?

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Lion’s Club meets every Tuesday at noon.  If you are interested in becoming more involved in the community, you might want to check out the Clay Center Lion’s Club meeting at Maury’s.  Visitors are welcome.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Rex Theater will be showing “Megamind Rated PG” opening day? When  cunning supervillain (voiced by Will Ferrell) accidently kills his crime-fighting nemesis, the rogue suddenly finds life boring and uninspired. So, he creates a new enemy (Jonah Hill) who seeks to destroy the world, forcing Megamind to play the hero role for once in his life. This hilarious 3D animated feature from director Tom McGrath (Madagascar) also features the voices of Brad Pitt and Tina Fey.” will show at 7:30 Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

 

DID YOU KNOW Weight Watchers meets every Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church 1330 15th Street? Weigh in is between 5:30 – 6:00, the meeting starts at 6:00 and goes to 6:30. For new members there will be a short Getting Started session after the meeting. Come see what the Momentum Plan is all about.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Lion’s Club meets every Tuesday at noon? Lions will meet on Tuesday, November 9th. Doug Powell from K State Food Safety Research will be the speaker.

DID YOU KNOW Wakefield commodities will be Nov 10 @ youth center on Main street at 1:00PM-2:00PM

 or 6:00PM -7:00PM. The  trailer will be unloaded 9:30 am for any helper. C ream of mushroom soup, cheddar cheese soup, applesauce, whole grain rotini, northern beans, salmon will be distributed.

 

DID YOU KNOW  The Clay Gourmet will be having their Christmas Open House, Saturday, November 13 from 9:30AM - 5:00PM and Sunday, November 14 from 1:00PM - 5:00PM.  Come by to do some early Christmas shopping and sample some new food items!  Fill out your wish list and remember we also gift-wrap!

 

DID YOU KNOW Clifton will hold the Annual Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony on November 11, 2010 in Clifton Kansas at 2:00PM. Support our Veterans.

 

DID YOU KNOW The Clay Center Farmers Market is happy to present a Cornucopia Farmers Market on November 13th from 9:00-12:00Noon inside Common Ground/Detour across from the Courthouse Square.  We will be selling homegrown produce, breads, pies, buffalo meat, honey, cheeses, jams and jellies, homemade crafts and much more. DID YOU KNOW Faith United Church Presbyterian is having a Turkey supper? Join them Saturday, November 13th from 5;00PM to 7:00PM, at 200 West Street in Clifton. Free Will Donations will be accepted. DID YOU KNOW  there is a Free Community Thanksgiving Dinner, November 25, 2010 from 11:00AM-1:00PM at the First Presbyterian Church Clay Center, KS (602 Clarke St).   Anyone in the community without special plans for Thanksgiving Dinner is invited to come enjoy turkey, dressing, potatoes, gravy, vegetable, relish, roll and pie. For rides or if you need your meal delivered, call the Presbyterian Church office at 632-2813.

 

DID YOU KNOW VFW 7774 and Auxiliary are collecting donations to help put a wreath on every grave on Ft. Riley on December 11, 2010 at 11:00AM. That is the same day they lay the wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery.  Cost per wreath is $15, and there are 2500 graves that need wreaths.  Contact Linda Olson at (785) 461-5591 or any FVW7774 or Auxiliary member.  Deadline for donations is November 1st, 2010- every penny counts!!

 

DID YOU KNOW you can come and experience the real story of Christmas at First Presbyterian Church (602 Clark Clay Center, KS) December 11 & 12 from 6:00PM-8:30PM.  Walk through the streets of Bethlehem and along the way meet up with King Herod, shepherds on the hillside, camp with the Magi, tour the market place and as the journey ends take time to reflect on what Christmas really means at the manger of Jesus.  Admission to the event is $1 or a canned good.  All proceeds will go to the Lighthouse for Christ.

DID YOU KNOW that pledges and donations for reserved seating for the Otto Unruh Stadium Renovations are still being collected?  If you would like to have reserved seats for the next football season, we invite you to go to the High School to purchase and choose your reserved seats for the prime 100 section or the remaining $25 reserved seats.  If you would like to make a donation towards the project, you may do that at any time at CCCHS.  Seats are first come, first choice, no seats will be held over from previous years.

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Crime Stoppers now has a website?  You can check out Clay County Crime Stoppers website at www.claycountycs.org to find out the crime of the week or to post a tip.  You can also call 800-222-8477 or text CLAYTIP plus your message to CRIMES (274637).  You can make your tips anonymously and still be eligible for up to $1,000 if the case is solved.  

 

DEXTER PARK PLAYGROUND PROJECT INFORMATION:

 

DID YOU KNOW individuals or businesses can sponsor specific components in the park?  The Dexter Park Fundraising Committee has released a brochure with all the available components in the park listed.  You or your business could sponsor a Slide, Spring Toy, Sandbox, Tree House, Bridge, Swings, Tic Tac Toe or a variety of other components.  Ranging in price from $500 - $5,000 these components will be sold on a first come first served basis – so you must act quickly!  Several components have already been sold!  Please stop by the Information Center at 517 Court, or call 632-5974 for more information about components.  There are a total of 60 components available and 23 have already been spoken for.   

 

DID YOU KNOW The Dexter Park Playground Project has raised OVER $99,924.65 with $20,700 more pledged (total of over $120,624.65) and lots more pickets to sell.  (We have sold 120 pickets to date).  If you would like to donate to the Dexter Park Playground Project – your tax deductible donations can be made payable to CCCIF and mailed to 517 Court; Clay Center, KS  67432.  Check out the website at www.ccplayground.homestead.com for more information and to download a donation/picket form!  We are also looking for volunteers to help in any area of the project!  (Fundraising, PR, Food, Child Care, Building, etc.)  The Build Dates have been set for April 27 – May 1, 2011!  

 

DID YOU KNOW that the Dexter Park Playground committee is selling pickets?   The Dexter Park Playground Committee is selling pickets for the playground projects.  The pickets will make up a fenced in area around the playground equipment.  The pickets cost $50 and can be personalized with up to 18 characters per picket.  The pickets are made of a plastic composite type material that should last a lifetime!  If you would like to purchase a picket to support this community wide project, please stop by the Information Center at 517 Court.  (A sample of the picket is on display at the Information Center!)  You can also get a form from the website at http://ccplayground.homestead.com/index.html

 

DID YOU KNOW Green Team of Clay Center is offering pickets in the park?  Green Team of Clay Center is helping with the Dexter Park Playground Project by offering to purchase a picket in the park for anyone buying a new car.  Stop by the Green Team for more information.
