DID YOU KNOW SCHOOL STARTS THIS WEEK!! SUPPORT OUR KIDS BY ENCOURAGING THEM TO DO THEIR BEST!!

 DID YOU KNOW there is a Motivational Program on August 16^th? This will be held at the Family Life Center, from 1:30PM-3:00PM. Ward Foley will present “A Different Kind of Hope” – Today’s challenging problems will be less important after hearing Ward Foley’s presentation, and he is also the author of “Thank My Lucky Stars”. The hour and half program will include a snack break. Invite your friends and family to attend with you.  DID YOU KNOW there is a fundraiser this week for Dan Palmateer? Dan Palmateer, Blue Rapids, formerly from the Wakefield area, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor that required surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. A Hall of Fame induction with a benefit meal and silent auction will be held at the Valley Heights Commons Area on Thursday, August 18^th, 2011. A pulled pork meal will be served from 5:30PM-7:30PM. A silent auction will also be held from 5:30PM-7:30PM, with the induction ceremony to begin at 7:30PM. Items for the on-air auction will be open for bid at the Induction Ceremony.  The highest bid will be the opening bid for the KCLY auction. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is graciously providing $750 in matching funds for the benefit.  Donations to help Dan and his family can be sent to:  Dan Palmateer, % Farmer’s & Merchants State Bank of Wakefield 711 Elm Street, Wakefield KS 67487.  At the request of many people in the Green and Leonardville area, we will be serving sandwiches at Ray’s Apple Market on Thursday, August 25^th and on Friday, August 26^th from 11:00AM -7:00PM, and on Saturday August 27^th from 11:00AM-2:00PM. Anyone wishing to help with the fundraiser at Ray’s Apple Market is encouraged to call Linda Underwood at 785-632-0369(cell) or 785-632-6322(home). All funds raised from these benefits will be used for medical and travel expenses.  Please keep Dan and his family in your prayers as he continues through his treatment process.

DID YOU KNOW Cub Scout Pack 55 and the Clay Center Girls Scouts are holding their Fall Registration on  August 20th at 11:00AM at the Clay Center Methodist Family Life Center. This year the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts are joining forces to host a Minute to Win It Competition for all boys and girls in the 1st through 5th grades. Medals will be awarded for the top 3 places in each category and free hotdogs, chips and soda will be provided. You do not have to currently be a Scout to participate and there is no obligation to join, so come on out and test your skills. Do you think you can stack 5 dice on a popsicle stick held in your mouth in under 60 seconds, you won't know unless you try!

 DID YOU KNOW United Bank & Trust will Stuff the Bus with common school supplies and classroom items to help districts, teachers and students to combat critical school budget cuts.  We need your help!!!!  Each bus will contain “Wish Cards” that lists common school supply items.  To get involved, pick up a “Wish Card”, purchase the item, and return it to the bank.  All donations will be given to local schools.  Plus, United Bank & Trust will offer a chance to win Chamber Gift Cards to those who participate.  With each donation an individual makes, they will be entered in the drawing for a $50 Gift Card or two $25 Gift Cards.  From now until September 16^th, United Bank & Trust will act a donation site for the supplies and classroom items.

DID YOU KNOW you can still enroll in soccer? Deadline is September 1, 2011- forms will not be accepted after that date. The cost is now $22.50 per player ($45 per household max. Return the soccer forms to United State Bank, Clay Center Information Center, or the City of Clay Center office.

DID YOU KNOW Pinsetters Bowling Center will be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, August 29th at 7:00p.m?  This meeting is for any women bowling or interested in bowling on either Monday or Tuesday night.  We will be talking about the up coming season as well as going over league rules and etiquette.  All players are strongly encouraged to attend. We will turn on the machines and have free open bowling for these women from 6:30PM - 7:00PM.   Dust off your shoes and ball and practice a bit before league starts.  Call Teia at (785) 630-0708 with questions.

DID YOU KNOW We are looking to restart the VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS (VFW) and it's Ladies AUXILIARY of Clay Center and are looking for members to restart the program.  If you have served in a combat zone or other approved military zone and can provide a DD214 or ERB with the eligible dates (see the link for details) http://www.vfw.org/uploadedFiles/VFWorg/Join/complete%20eligibility%20Info.PDF then we would like to help you join the VFW. Ladies Auxiliary VFW Members are...(eligibility) Wives, widows, mothers, foster and stepmothers (who have performed the duties of parent), grandmothers, daughters, granddaughters, foster and stepdaughters (who attained that status prior to the age of sixteen and for whom the duties of parent were performed), sisters, half sisters, foster and stepsisters (who attained that status prior to age sixteen) of persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. Members must be citizens of the United States and not less than sixteen years old. Women eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States shall be eligible for dual membership in the Ladies Auxiliary. DID YOU KNOW the Chamber of Commerce has a weekly community coffee?  They will meet on Wednesday mornings at 8:00AM.

DID YOU KNOW the Rex Theatre shows movies each week?, Friday at 8:00PM, Saturday and Sunday at 7:30PM is “Cowboys & Aliens”  Rated PG 13.  Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's graphic novel series leaps to the screen as amnesiac gunslinger Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) stumbles into the Wild West town of Absolution, where he's confronted by potent enemy Col. Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) and a terrifying problem: invading aliens. Aided by the lovely Ella (Olivia Wilde), Jake rallies a posse of the townspeople, Dolarhyde's minions and local Apache warriors to fight off the extraterrestrial threat. Tickets are $5.

 DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Farmers Market is on Saturday’s from 8:00AM-11:00AM on the West Side of the Courthouse? The Market will be every Saturday from May 7th- October 29th.  We are a producer only market, what this means is our vendors can only sell what they grow. DID YOU KNOW there will be an Operation Military Kids BBQ in Wakefield? On August 27^th, from 11:00AM-4:00PM, at Shelter 2 (by the Ball Diamond) In Wakefield, come get to know your neighbors at a cook out sponsored by OMK to educate military and non military about OMK. When RSVPing, include your children’s ages to add them to the list for a Hero Pack.

 DID YOU KNOW Incentives are available to qualified businesses based on the location of the facility, type of facility (manufacturing or non-manufacturing), capital investment made, and number of jobs created.  Some of these incentives expire December 31^st, 2011.  If you are planning to expand your facility or purchase equipment that will create new jobs call the Clay County Economic Development office at 632-5974.

DID YOU KNOW there will be a Clay Center Car Show on September 24^th? This will be at Dexter Park. Advance Registration is $15, deadline for that is September 17th. Onsite Registration is $20. There will be a 50/50 pot, on-site poker run, and proceeds to benefit scholarship fund. There will be Top 20, Best Interior, Best Exterior and Best Engine. Special Awards for Exhibitor’s Choice and Women’s Choice.  Registration is from 8:00AM-11:00AM, Lunch is provided at noon (2 meals per entry)  This is sponsored by Clay Center Business &Professional Women.
