ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/UPCOMING EVENTS
DID YOU KNOW Sgt. Jesse Trumble, U.S. Marine Corps, of Clay Center is currently stationed in the mountains of Afghanistan. It is winter there and Jesse and his 40 fellow U.S. Marines are living in a small mud facility. It gets into the teens at night. Their sleeping bags are their beds. They have MREs to eat, water, and a hot plate. There is not internet. There is not cell phone connectivity. There is a satellite phone. When I asked what they do for entertainment Jesse responded by saying they have a board game of Monopoly and one of the game Risk.
Jesse’s mother in-law bought the men a couple DVD players yesterday to send over to enable the young men to watch movies. However, they will need movies. That being said, if there is anyone that has any movies they no longer want and would like to donate them to those Marines, they would be greatly appreciated. Likewise, if anyone has a book they would like to donate, any books would also be appreciated.
Attached are two lists – one of food, the second a miscellaneous list, neither of which is all inclusive.
The young men will be thankful for any and all kindness that is bestowed upon them…a letter …. anything. Remember, there is no internet…therefore the U.S. Postal Service is their source of connectivity. Please … reach out and touch. There are 40 young men that will be eternally grateful to you. As will the mother of their Sergeant… Jesse Trumble. Please keep these fine U.S. Marines in your prayers. Thank you.

Coming in March is The Clay County Economic Development Group is hosting a Marketing Needs Assessment workshop on Wednesday March 7th from 1:00 to 3:00pm at the Clay County Medical Center Education Room. Those who participate in this workshop can schedule a free individual consultation with the presenter on Friday, March 9th. Planning for marketing success is a tedious but necessary part of a business. The Marketing Needs Assessment workshop is designed to make the process more fruitful and less painful. Participants of the workshop will receive a full appraisal of their current marketing efforts and help identifying their business and marketing goals; strategies that link directly to those goals; and a specific plan of action with tasks and milestones. A professional consultant will take you through the assessment and use the information gathered to make a comprehensive marketing recommendation. Because of the goal-oriented nature of the assessment, marketing cost savings of 20 percent are common. And for businesses which don't currently have a marketing budget, year-on-year sales and profit increases of 50 percent are also a common occurrence. How does it happen? The Marketing Needs Assessment uncovers the most appropriate mix of promotional tools and how to integrate them with pricing and distribution. In this way, resources are allocated efficiently. Then the businessperson will meet with the consultant after the assessment and analysis are complete and receive an easy-to-follow roadmap for marketing success. The workshop will be led by David Mace a business consultant for the Kansas Small Business Development Center at Wichita State University who also teaches business management and marketing classes at Friends University. Some of his past clients have said: "I recommend any business owner have Dave Mace in their toolkit."; "Dave was engaging and broke things down in easy-to-understand ways."; "I want Dave at the table because he's the guy who understands my business." For more information call the Clay County Economic Development Group at 785-632-5974. To reserve your spot in the workshop send payment of $25 to CCEDG, 517 Court Street, Clay Center.

Fundraiser Info:
Raymond Bull, a lifetime resident of Clay County, was a bookkeeper for Orr’s Furniture City, Skinner Motor Co., and Dick Edwards Auto Center for many years. He has had some medical issues, and he went into the hospital the middle of June for pneumonia. After spending a few weeks in the Clay Co. Medical Center, Raymond was transferred to Topeka for an Ecoli infection that had discenagrated three of his ribs. Surgery was performed to remove those ribs. He was then placed on a breathing machine to help him learn to breathe without those ribs there for his lungs. In October, he was transferred back to Clay County Medical Center to start his rehab process. After a few weeks there, he was transferred to Manhattan Rehabilitation Center for a more intense rehab. However, after spending a few weeks there, his legs and hips would still not lift him out of bed or steady himself to walk. In November, Raymond was transferred to Presbyterian Manor, where he still resides today. While he does have medical insurance, some things are not covered, and the bills keep coming.
A fundraiser for Raymond to help with medical and general living expenses is being held at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. A pulled pork supper prepared by Dieck’s Catering will be served for a free will offering. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Republican River Chapter #30307 is graciously providing $500 in matching funds for this event. If anyone wishes to help in any way, please call Linda Underwood at 785-632-0369. Anyone wishing to make a donation to help Raymond is encouraged to send it to: Raymond Bull, %Union State Bank, P. O. Box 518, Clay Center, Ks 67432-0518 or you could take it by the bank, as well.
Thank you for your support and continued prayers for his recovery so that he may get to go back to his home. Looking forward to seeing you there.
