When she first moved to Clay Center, she worked at Union State Bank before opening Mode O’ Day women’s clothing store and running the business for 26 years. Upon closing the store in 2000, she went to work at Pamida, and now is currently employed at Ray’s Apple Market. In May of 2011, Paulette was carrying a box down her basement stairs, slipped, and fell. Doctors determined she had broken her right hip. She was transferred to Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan where she underwent surgery to repair the broken hip. Two and a half months later, it was determined that the hip was not healing, and that a hip replacement surgery was necessary. In July, Paulette underwent a second surgery where the hip was replaced. She was in the rehabilitation phase, and doing well. Paulette later fell taking her trash out and broke her femur bone on the same side as her hip replacement. She had surgery to repair her broken bone, and has missed several more weeks of work. She is now back to work part time at Ray’s Apple Market, and is looking forward to seeing her regular customers again. Paulette has two children, Jayson Hood and Georgia Hood of Clay Center, and 4 four grandchildren; Caitlyn, Emily, and Lucas Hood and Jaydin Wells. Paulette sincerely appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers during this long recovery process. She is looking forward to getting back to work full time and visiting with all her friends as they come through her checkout line. A fundraiser is being planned for Paulette Hood on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at the Catholic Parish Hall. A pulled pork meal will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a free will offering. The meal will consist of pulled pork, scalloped potatoes, a vegetable, and a roll. Anyone interested in providing a dessert for the meal is encouraged to call Linda Underwood at 785-632-0369 (cell) or 785-632-6233 (home) after 6:00 p.m. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Republican River Chapter #30307 is graciously providing $500 in matching funds for this event. Please give this fundraiser your prayerful consideration. Looking forward to seeing you there. While Paulette does have insurance, there are many things that are not covered, and she has missed quite a number of days of work. Please keep Paulette in your prayers as she continues with her healing process. Thanking you in advance for your participation in this fundraiser.
