DID YOU KNOW This Saturday will be the last regular Clay Center Farmers Market?  There is still a wonderful selection of produce, baked goods, meats, and jams and jellies.  DON'T miss out. Saturday morning from 8-11 on the west side of the Courthouse Square in Clay Center

 

DID YOU KNOW this is the last weekend to visit Browndale Pumpkin Farm?  Spooky Flashlight Maze is Saturday October 30 from 7:30PM to 9:30PM, Bring your own Flashlight!  $3 per person. For more information call 785-427-3335  or 785-630-0032, A little scary, a lot of fun!

DID YOU KNOW Wendy’s is having a Community Night to benefit the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research and services? Stop by Wendy’s on October 27th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. 20% of the sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

 

DID YOU KNOW Excitement is building at Ginger's Uptown as they kick off their 25th Year Celebration?  Join us at Ginger's on Thursday October 28th as we begin our festivities from 3:00-6:00PM - come see our "Brighton Trunk Show".  Stop by as our "Brighton" representative visits Clay Center and will showcase this fabulous accessory line!  There will be goodies, surprises and of course other "kick-off" festivities!  We would love to see you on Thursday October 28th at Ginger's Uptown!

 

DID YOU KNOW the Chambers Halloween Howl will be October 29th from 4:00PM-5:30PM? Children need to report to the Chamber office to get their Trick or Treat bags, and Halloween map of all Chamber members that will be participating. There will also be many churches participating by having a Trunk or Treat on the south side of the court house. The costume contest will begin at 5:30 at the Rex Theater. Children can pick up the entry forms at school.

 

DID YOU KNOW Also at the Rex on October 29th  there will be a Halloween Costume Contest- more details will follow!

       

DID YOU KNOW the VFW & Auxiliary is having a School Carnival Oct 30th at the Wakefield School? More details will follow.

 

DID YOU KNOW the VFW & Auxiliary is hosting Trick or Treat from 5:00-7:00 pm and for little ones, and  there will be Trunk or Treat in the parking lot at the Methodist Church on Main St in Wakefield.

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Wrestling Club Free Clinic will be starting on Monday, November 1, 2010. WHEN:  The first session of the Clay County Wrestling Club (CCWC) FREE CLINIC will be held on Monday, November 1st, 6:30 to 7:45 P.M.  The remaining sessions will be held each Monday and Wednesday evenings at the same time through Wednesday, November 17.  Wrestlers and parents are encouraged to attend any or all sessions during this time. WHERE:  Clay Center City Hall - 2nd Floor WHO CAN ATTEND:  This free clinic is for the beginning or inexperienced wrestler who wants to learn about the sport of wrestling.   We do not discriminate, male or female accepted, children ages 4-16.  If you are currently participating in your middle school program, you cannot attend this Free Clinic. EQUIPMENT NEEDED:  Wrestlers will need tennis shoes, shorts and shirt, or sweats.  Singlets are provided by CCWC after you have joined the wrestling club. Parents are invited to attend any of the sessions.  Club information will be handed out toward the end of the Free Clinic explaining the CCWC Wrestling Program.  Coaches and board members will be present during the Free Clinic to answer any questions you may have.

 

A parents meeting and enrollment will be held the week of Thanksgiving.  This is the time that you will have to decide whether to enroll your child or not.

DID YOU KNOW Clay Center Fall Clean-up will start November 8-- 2 weeks in November, prior to Thanksgiving? Items for Fall Clean-Up should be placed out no earlier than November 1, as the City does not want trash out during Halloween.. The City will not pick up batteries or any hazardous waste, but they will take large appliances including those with Freon in them. For a complete list of what the City will and will not pick up, contact City Hall at 632-5454.

 

DID YOU KNOW On November 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 there will be a carnival at Garfield Elementary? Walking Taco supper is available for $3, includes cookie and bottled water. Family fun for all!!! Call 632-2125 if you have any questions.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Masonic Lodge #134 is holding a CHIP event at the Garfield School’s Carnival on November 5, 2010 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. DID YOU KNOW Republican Valley Ringnecks Youth Pheasant Hunt will be November 7th at Noon near Idana, KS? The Youth hunt is FREE to all participants but a $20 refundable deposit is required to register your youth.

Youth 16 and younger are encouraged to register and preference will be given to those who have not previously attended. Please contact 632-0627 to register.

 

DID YOU KNOW The CCCMS PEP will be sponsoring a Bengal Sports Supper on Monday, Nov. 8 during the CCCMS Girls basketball game and again on Tuesday, Nov. 9 during the CCCMS Wrestling duo?  The supper will be a pulled pork sandwich meal for a free-will donation and will be held in the CCCMS Commons Area from 5:00PM-7:00PM on each night.

 

 

                

WEEKLY EVENTS/MEETINGS

 

DID YOU KNOW Weight Watchers meets every Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church 1330 15th Street? Weigh in is between 5:30 – 6:00, the meeting starts at 6:00 and goes to 6:30. For new members there will be a short Getting Started session after the meeting. Come see what the Momentum Plan is all about.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Chamber of Commerce has a weekly community coffee?  They will meet on Wednesday, October 27th at 8:00AM.This week will be the State of our city (Health, Employment, Youth) The coffee this month is sponsored by Union State Bank & Clay County Medical Center. 

 

DID YOU KNOW Parents as Teachers Play Group meet every Wednesday 9:30AM-11:00 at the District Gym on Prospect, behind CCCHS. All play groups are open to any family that has a child between 0-3 years old. Older siblings are also welcome. There will be no Play Group when school is not in session.

 

DID YOU KNOW that Rotary Club meets every Thursday?   Rotary will meet at noon on Thursday, October 28th.The speaker will Dr. Edward Hammond, FHSU President. If you would like to attend Rotary as a guest or become a member please contact a current member for information.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Lion’s Club meets every Tuesday at noon.  If you are interested in becoming more involved in the community, you might want to check out the Clay Center Lion’s Club meeting at Maury’s.  Visitors are welcome.

DID YOU KNOW The Clay Center Farmers Market is happy to present a Cornucopia Farmers Market on November 13th from 9:00-12:00Noon inside Common Ground/Detour across from the Courthouse Square.  We will be selling homegrown produce, breads, pies, buffalo meat, honey, cheeses, jams and jellies, homemade crafts and much more. DID YOU KNOW VFW 7774 and Auxiliary are collecting donations to help put a wreath on every grave on Ft. Riley on December 11, 2010 at 11:00AM. That is the same day they lay the wreaths at Arlington National Cemetery.  Cost per wreath is $15, and there are 2500 graves that need wreaths.  Contact Linda Olson at (785) 461-5591 or any FVW7774 or Auxiliary member.  Deadline for donations is November 1st, 2010- every penny counts!!

DID YOU KNOW that pledges and donations for reserved seating for the Otto Unruh Stadium Renovations are still being collected?  If you would like to have reserved seats for the next football season, we invite you to go to the High School to purchase and choose your reserved seats for the prime 100 section or the remaining $25 reserved seats.  If you would like to make a donation towards the project, you may do that at any time at CCCHS.  Seats are first come, first choice, no seats will be held over from previous years.

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Crime Stoppers now has a website?  You can check out Clay County Crime Stoppers website at www.claycountycs.org to find out the crime of the week or to post a tip.  You can also call 800-222-8477 or text CLAYTIP plus your message to CRIMES (274637).  You can make your tips anonymously and still be eligible for up to $1,000 if the case is solved.  

 

DEXTER PARK PLAYGROUND PROJECT INFORMATION:

 

DID YOU KNOW individuals or businesses can sponsor specific components in the park?  The Dexter Park Fundraising Committee has released a brochure with all the available components in the park listed.  You or your business could sponsor a Slide, Spring Toy, Sandbox, Tree House, Bridge, Swings, Tic Tac Toe or a variety of other components.  Ranging in price from $500 - $5,000 these components will be sold on a first come first served basis – so you must act quickly!  Several components have already been sold!  Please stop by the Information Center at 517 Court, or call 632-5974 for more information about components.  There are a total of 60 components available and 23 have already been spoken for.   

 

DID YOU KNOW The Dexter Park Playground Project has raised OVER $99,924.65 with $20,700 more pledged (total of over $120,624.65) and lots more pickets to sell.  (We have sold 120 pickets to date).  If you would like to donate to the Dexter Park Playground Project – your tax deductible donations can be made payable to CCCIF and mailed to 517 Court; Clay Center, KS  67432.  Check out the website at www.ccplayground.homestead.com for more information and to download a donation/picket form!  We are also looking for volunteers to help in any area of the project!  (Fundraising, PR, Food, Child Care, Building, etc.)  The Build Dates have been set for April 27 – May 1, 2011!  

 

DID YOU KNOW that the Dexter Park Playground committee is selling pickets?   The Dexter Park Playground Committee is selling pickets for the playground projects.  The pickets will make up a fenced in area around the playground equipment.  The pickets cost $50 and can be personalized with up to 18 characters per picket.  The pickets are made of a plastic composite type material that should last a lifetime!  If you would like to purchase a picket to support this community wide project, please stop by the Information Center at 517 Court.  (A sample of the picket is on display at the Information Center!)  You can also get a form from the website at http://ccplayground.homestead.com/index.html

 

DID YOU KNOW Green Team of Clay Center is offering pickets in the park?  Green Team of Clay Center is helping with the Dexter Park Playground Project by offering to purchase a picket in the park for anyone buying a new car.  Stop by the Green Team for more information.
