DID YOU KNOW The Clay Center Masonic Lodge #134 is holding a KSCHIP Child ID event for the Clay Center Pre-School / Head Start on January 27, 2011 from 6:30PM till 9:00PM. The event is being held at the Dreams Unlimited building at 408 Lincoln Street, Clay Center, KS. This is FREE to all parents. There is NO AGE LIMIT. This is a closed event so only families and staff of the Head Start/ Pre-School will be able to attend.

The child identification kit will include a photo of the child and their digital fingerprints. There is no ink involved with the fingerprints. The law enforcement can use the photo with their equipment and are able to do an age enhancement of the photo, if the need arrives.  There is a short movie clip with the child being interviewed. This can be used by law enforcement for voice comparison, etc. The questions that the children are asked include: where do you go when you are upset, where you like to play, or what are your best friend’s names. This gives the police a starting point to look in case the child just needed some time to get away from things. The parent will be supplied a cotton swab that they can use to collect a DNA sample. The kit also includes a place to report scars, birthmarks, health concerns, etc. All of this can be important should law enforcement have to use the disc to find a missing child. Law enforcement may need to know if the child needs medication while waiting to be returned to the parents. All this is placed on a CD that can be taken to the police station. The parents should be able to contact the child’s dentist and have them make a cd of dental x-rays for the kit as well. The kit can be downloaded on a computer flash drive and the parents could have the kit with them to take on a trip. Items that can be placed in the kit by the parents if they choose to add to the basic kit are hair or nail samples or anything else the parent feels important to include.  The lodge will burn a CD that is given to the parents along with all the paper work that the parent had filled out except the permission slip. When they start the next child or the next family the information is erased completely of the computers. There is nothing transmitted from the computers. The only information is what the parents receive to take home. This for them to store and keep in a safe place should the need ever arise. Questions that are being asked from past events are: Where do they place the CHIP?  There is no chip being placed on or in your child. Who gets the information that is placed on the computer?  The only person that receives any of the information given by the parent is the parent. The information is erased on the computer when we start the next child. The information is not stored on any hard drive. No one gets a copy of the child records but the parents. That is why the parent needs to ensure that they keep the disk in a safe place.  The only thing that is kept by the lodge is the permission slip. There is no age limit. Anyone that might be at risk or could benefit with the kit is encourage to come out and have one done. This can include the elderly or handicapped individuals. The kit is free. It only takes about 10 minutes per child/person to make a CHIP kit. The Clay Center Lodge has held this event many locations this year and has made over a 100 kits for the parents. Check out www.kschip.org  or can contact Grand Lodge A.F and A.M of Kansas www.kansasmason.org  for more information and to find an event near you. “Children are one of the most important parts of our life.” Nedwin Bloom, Master of the Lodge says. “We as parents need to ensure that we have every possible tool available to help keep our child(ren) safe.” Clay Center Lodge meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM at 2317 7th ST Clay Center Kansas.
