NEW ITEMS for January:

 

DID YOU KNOW there will a Spaghetti Supper on Wednesday, January 12 from 5:30-7 PM at the Methodist Church Family Life Center, free will donations will be accepted and will benefit the Dexter Park Playground Project. The Rotary Club will be selling pickets (available until Feb. 16) and will also have raffle tickets for a Maytag front load washer/dryer set from Wall's True Value with a drawing to be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011. A donation of $5 a ticket or 5 tickets for $20 is suggested.  To get yours you can stop the Clay Center Information Office or by The Citizen's National Bank.

 

DID YOU KNOW Wakefield commodities will be Jan 12 from 1:00PM-2:00PM or 6:00PM-7:00PM at the old youth center on Main St?

Pork, Ultra milk, dried plums, peanut butter, cereal, whole kernel corn, apple juice are on the list.

 

DID YOU KNOW On January 13th there is an event called “Take Down Breast Cancer” at the Tiger Wrestling Match. Buy a pink Tie-Dye Breast Cancer with a Tiger Paw on the back T-Shirts for $20.00 and wear it to the Match and pink out at the high school. The Wrestling Match is against Marysville beginning at 6:30PM. T-Shirts may be purchased at Distinctive Images or for more information contact Deb Moon at 632-1715.

 

DID YOU KNOW On January 14th we are going to “Hoop It Up for a Cure” at the Tiger Basketball games.  The same t-shirt can be worn and purchased for this event.  The Basketball game is against Abilene the freshman boys play at 4:30PM and the Varsity girls game start at 6:15PM.  Please come out and support your teams and help Find a Cure for the dreadful disease.

 

DID YOU KNOW on January 15th and 16th, at Milford Lake, is Eagle Days?  The Milford Nature Center opens at 10:30AM on Saturday  and buses for viewing Bald Eagles at the lake will leave every hour beginning at 11:00AM on Saturday and  noon  on Sunday with the last bus leaving at 2:00.

 

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Medical Center's Stroke Support Group will meet on Tuesday, January 18 from 10:00AM – 11:00AM in the hospital's education centers.  Survivors of stroke, family members and friends are welcomed to attend along with all interested persons.  For more information call Brenda Bohnenblust at 785-632-2144.

 

DID YOU KNOW the City of Clay Center will pick up your e.waste each week all year long?  Just put your old computers, TV’s, DVD players, VCR’s cell phones, video games, MP3 players, curling irons, hair dryers, etc out with your other recyclables and we will take them away for you.  If you have questions regarding recycling e.waste call city hall at 632-5454 or email citymayor@claycenterks.com.

WEEKLY EVENTS/MEETINGS

 

DID YOU KNOW the Chamber of Commerce has a weekly community coffee?  They will meet on Wednesday, January 12th at 8:00AM.

 

DID YOU KNOW Parents as Teachers Play Group meet every Wednesday 9:30AM-11:00 at the District Gym on Prospect, behind CCCHS. All play groups are open to any family that has a child between 0-3 years old. Older siblings are also welcome. There will be no Play Group when school is not in session.

 

DID YOU KNOW that Rotary Club will meet Thursday, January 13th?. The Speaker will be Joe Coles.  If you would like to attend future  Rotary meetings as a guest or become a member please contact a current member for information.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Rex Theatre shows movies each week?  “Tangled Rated PG - Disney animators take on the classic Grimm Brothers story of Rapunzel (Mandy Moore), a long-locked beauty imprisoned in a secluded tower by evil hag Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy), who needs the rejuvenating powers of Rapunzel's tresses to remain young. When a puckish bandit on the lam (Zachary Levi) helps Rapunzel escape, the old crone plots to recapture her and end her budding romance with the thief. Other celebrity voices include Ron Perlman. Show times are Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:00PM.  Showing Friday, Saturday –time not yet determined and Sunday at 7:00PM is “Yogi Bear Rated G. When the greedy mayor (Andrew Daly) decides to close Jellystone Park to cash in by selling the land, Yogi Bear (voiced by Dan Aykroyd) and his sidekick Boo-Boo (voiced by Justin Timberlake) must team with their adversary, Ranger Smith (Tom Cavanagh), to save their home. Meanwhile, filmmaker Rachel (Anna Faris) follows Yogi and captures his antics. Nathan Corddry co-stars in this 3D live-action/computer-animated adventure.

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay County Commission meets every Monday at 8:30AM?

 

DID YOU KNOW the Clay Center Lion’s Club meets every Tuesday at noon? Lions will meet on Tuesday, January 17th.

 

DID YOU KNOW Weight Watchers meets every Tuesday at the Evangelical Covenant Church 1330 15th Street? Weigh in is between 5:30 – 6:00, the meeting starts at 6:00 and goes to 6:30. For new members there will be a short Getting Started session after the meeting.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/UPCOMING EVENTS

 

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Medical Center's Lunch Bunch will meet on Wednesday, January 19 at noon in the hospital's education centers.  Guest speaker will be Deanna Turner, Family & Consumer Sciences Agent.  She will help you "Organize Your Clutter in 2011".  Lunch is $5 and reservations are required by calling the  Mark A. Chapman Wellness Center at 785-632-3929, ext. 427. 

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Medical Center's Childbirth Education classes will begin on Monday, February 7.  The childbirth education class is a 4-week session offered one night a week.  Sessions last 2-3 hours each. This class is free of charge.  All expecting mothers and support persons are welcomed.  Class begins at 7:00PM. For more information or to register call Kelly Otott at 785-632-2144.

DID YOU KNOW Clay County Crime Stoppers now has a website?  You can check out Clay County Crime Stoppers website at www.claycountycs.org to find out the crime of the week or to post a tip.  You can also call 800-222-8477 or text CLAYTIP plus your message to CRIMES (274637).  You can make your tips anonymously and still be eligible for up to $1,000 if the case is solved.  

 

DEXTER PARK PLAYGROUND PROJECT INFORMATION:

 

DID YOU KNOW there will be spaghetti supper January 12th at the Family Life Center. The Rotary will be selling tickets for frontload Maytag washer/dryer set from Walls and the drawing will be Feb 9th. The suggested donation of $5 ticket or 5 for $20.

 

DID YOU KNOW individuals or businesses can sponsor specific components in the park?  The Dexter Park Fundraising Committee has released a brochure with all the available components in the park listed.  You or your business could sponsor a Slide, Spring Toy, Sandbox, Tree House, Bridge, Swings, Tic Tac Toe or a variety of other components.  Ranging in price from $500 - $5,000 these components will be sold on a first come first served basis – so you must act quickly!  Several components have already been sold!  Please stop by the Information Center at 517 Court, or call 632-5974 for more information about components.  There are a total of 60 components available and 23 have already been spoken for.   

 

DID YOU KNOW The Dexter Park Playground Project has raised OVER $144,000 and has more pickets to sell.  (We have sold 120 pickets to date).  If you would like to donate to the Dexter Park Playground Project – your tax deductible donations can be made payable to CCCIF and mailed to 517 Court; Clay Center, KS  67432.  Check out the website at www.ccplayground.homestead.com for more information and to download a donation/picket form!  We are also looking for volunteers to help in any area of the project!  (Fundraising, PR, Food, Child Care, Building, etc.)  The Build Dates have been set for April 27 – May 1, 2011!  We still need volunteers for the build!

 

DID YOU KNOW that the Dexter Park Playground committee is selling pickets?   The Dexter Park Playground Committee is selling pickets for the playground projects.  The pickets will make up a fenced in area around the playground equipment.  The pickets cost $50 and can be personalized with up to 18 characters per picket.  The pickets are made of a plastic composite type material that should last a lifetime!  If you would like to purchase a picket to support this community wide project, please stop by the Information Center at 517 Court.  (A sample of the picket is on display at the Information Center!)  You can also get a form from the website at http://ccplayground.homestead.com/index.html Pickets will be sold until February 16, to get yours today!!

 

DID YOU KNOW Green Team of Clay Center is offering pickets in the park?  Green Team of Clay Center is helping with the Dexter Park Playground Project by offering to purchase a picket in the park for anyone buying a new car.  Stop by the Green Team for more information. 

 

DID YOU KNOW Distinctive Images is offering a unique donation to the Dexter Park Playground Project?  Distinctive Images will donate $1 for every new Year of the Tiger shirt sold.  You can view the design at http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs386.snc3/23576_386336381981_744516981_5141920_7825057_n.jpg or stop by the store.  What a great way to support the Tigers and the Playground project.  2010 is the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Tiger, so Distinctive Images has tapped into this unique opportunity in an ad campaign for the Clay Center Tigers!
