Effective October 1, 2015, you will need a government issued photo ID to obtain a copy of your marriage license (driver's license, military ID, etc.).
Instructions for Obtaining a Marriage License
Either person may make application for the marriage license. When you come in to apply you will need to provide both parties date of birth and social security number. There is a 3 day waiting period, after application is made, before you may pick up the license. For example:
- Application made on Monday: The license may be picked up on the following Thursday or any workday thereafter.
- Application made on Tuesday: The license may be picked up on the following Friday or any workday thereafter.
- Application made on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday: The license may be picked up on the following Monday or any workday thereafter.
Our office hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Either person may pick up the license. Please come to the District Court Clerk’s Office before 3:30 p.m. We will not process a marriage license if you do not arrive before 3:30 p.m.

The worksheet must be signed by both parties.
The fee for the license is $85.50, cash only!
Married By the Judge
If you wish to be married by the Judge you may make an appointment with Judge William M Malcolm by calling 785-632-3443. The fee for the ceremony is determined by the Judge.
If you have misplaced or lost your license and cannot find it after it has been issued to you, you will have to reapply and pay the $85.50 again.
